A new range that's proud to be British...

Scion is an exciting new British furnishings brand brought to us by the Harlequin group. Designed with a trend-savvy, fashion-aware customer in mind, Scion’s uplifting fabrics and wall coverings are cutting-edge, accessibly-priced and forward-thinking, whilst retaining an enduring appeal and intrinsic individuality.

Their debut range, Melinki, features an eclectic mix of prints, embroideries, jacquards and co-ordinating plains. Refreshingly uncomplicated yet powerfully effective, Melinki consciously channels fashion motifs and colours, as well as offering more than a passing nod to modern, Scandinavian design. The collection gives you the freedom to bestow your home with a diverse range of vibrant moods through its individual designs and cool clean colour groups such as coastal calm, retro kitsch, bakelite brights and urban neutrals.

Scion is justifiably proud of its British roots: its printed fabrics and wall coverings are all manufactured in the UK, by factories that have clear commitments and initiative towards the care of the environment and to sustainability.

We are proud to add this brand to our collection at the John Dick & Son design studio and welcome you to come along and be inspired!! Fabrics in the Melinki collection are available from a very reasonable £25 per metre and wall coverings from an inspiring £30 per roll.

Does Jenga have a place in your home?

The game "Jenga" has been around since the early 70's and is a much loved family game in many household around the World. Jenga consists of taking one and only one block from any of the 18 levels (except the one below the incomplete top level) of the tower, and placing it on the topmost level to complete it.  The game ends when the tower falls in even a minor way - in other words, any piece falls from the tower, other than the piece being knocked out to move to the top. The winner is the last person to successfully remove and place a block.

The name is derived from a Swahili word meaning "to build."

So, why are we telling you all about a game that you most probably already know all about?  Because our latest dining range is inspired by Jenga.  As you will see from the picture below, the building blocks, each one three times longer than it is wide, has a strong design influence on the design of this superb range of furniture.

It's extremely sturdy and built to the highest quality and unlike the game we guarantee it won't fall apart during family get togethers!

Please drop into the furniture showroom in Glasgow and take a look for yourself, we're sure you'll be pleasantly surprised with the whole range.

Spring news from "The Campus"...

Spring has well and truly arrived and here at John Dick & Son we’re putting the spotlight onto ‘spring cleaning’ the home for the lighter days and evenings. The dark nights are behind us and the best way to embrace the joys of Spring in your home (and the impending Summer months!) is to introduce some lighter, brighter items and pack away the cosy, winter accessories . Our Interior Designer Sally Dick has picked out some items below which should help provide some spring cleaning inspiration...

Let there be light with this elegant Lamp & Shade (£258.00) and enjoy the spoils of a quality, sprung sofa with this stunning handcrafted Holkham Sofa (pictured below - from £1789) , which would look fabulous in a day room or conservatory (available in a range of fabrics). Changing accessories is always a winner when revamping a room to fit with a new season – key tips are to tidy away heavy throws, dark cushions and rugs (unveil those wooden floor boards once again!) and add softer textures and colours through lamps, wall hangings and lighter textiles.

And, don't forget we now have sofas for any room in the house; there's many quality pieces available in the Sofa Barn like the Odessa Sofa below for only £499

This stunning coloured glass bowl (£43.00) has a retro edge and will add interest to any room in the home whereas this mahogany and leather Coffee Table (£1695.00), with its bevelled glass top and lower shelf is both functional and stylish. View decorative items

Osborne & Little
Sumptuous fabrics, beautiful textures and gorgeous prints....all part of the new Spring collection from Osborne & Little which we have added to the already extensive range of fabrics and wallpapers on offer in our design studio. The Metropolis Vinyl wallpaper collection features interpretations of classic Osborne & Little patterns as well as introducing some very smart new designs. These include textured animal print, leather and padded diamond stitching effects – adding a suitable amount of drama to any room.

The Talara range by Nina Campbell is inspired by the ancient civilisations of the Andes and is a stunning collection of woven fabrics featuring multi patterned stripes, tree of life jacquards and elegant silk paisley designs all co-ordinated beautifully in a delightful range of colours.

Sofa Barn....
And just a little reminder that the doors of our sister company - the Sofa Barn - opened a few weeks ago. Between the John Dick & Son showroom and the newly opened Sofa Barn we can now offer something for every room of your home – to suit both taste and budget - whether it's a signature piece for your main reception room or a sofa for your TV room or conservatory. Here is an aerial picture that we’ve recently had taken of John Dick & Son and the Sofa Barn .....to help show you where everything is!
