What's the trend for interiors in 2011?

Today is the last day of our annual sale, and we now start to look at furniture trends and new stock for the coming year and we're delighted with the designs we have already seen, and ordered, for the showroom.

Last week Bruce Dick, Managing Director of John Dick & Son, started the buying season with visits to Interiors 2011 in Birmingham and, Maison & Objet 2011 in Paris, the two largest interior trade shows in Europe.

Over the next couple of weeks we will post some images to give you an idea of the furniture and accessories that will shortly be arriving at John Dick & Son.

It's worth noting that John Dick & Son hand pick the stock for their showroom therefore it is essential to be present at these major shows to gauge the trends and fashions for the following year. This year it's about mixing eclectic and unusual pieces, fine french cherry and walnut sitting with chunky weathered Oak and soft furnishings in shiny metallic fabrics contrasting with cosy plaids, linens and velvets.

We are very excited about the new ranges which will start to appear in the showroom in the next couple of weeks. For now, we will be posting some images taken on the buying trips to give you a flavour of what to expect this year. Please check back over the next few days to see some of the magnificent pieces you can expect to see in the showroom. Alternatively, you may find it easier to follow the bog posts on our Facebook Page.

Congratulations to our competition winner

During December we ran a competition to win £100 worth of vouchers for John Dick & Son. To enter the competition the Facebook members had to invite friends, family or colleagues to "Like" our Facebook Page.

Congratulations to Cally Halpin who was drawn at random as our winner, she will receive a £100 voucher from John Dick & Son.

It was nice to see Cally's response to her win on our Facebook Page: "Brilliant! I never win anything so this is a first!! !"

IF Cally has read our last blog post she will already appreciate how accessories can make an enormous difference to a room. She'll be pleased to know we sell a wide range of soft furnishings and ornamental products as well as larger pieces of furniture.

We look forward to welcoming Cally to the showroom to use her £100 voucher

“New Year, New Look”

Often when the festivities have passed and the New Year is upon us we find ourselves looking for a change, something to brighten our spirit through the winter months. The decorations are no longer and you feel you would like to give your room a new lease of life!!

This can be achieved easily by making small changes which make a real impact and completely change the look of the room. Your sofa could be transformed by just changing the scatter cushions for example.

Go for a textured feel with tartan & wool to give that cosy curl up by the fire mood or why not be daring and add a strong accent, like aubergine, lime or fuchsia pink to really make a bold statement. If you feel more comfortable with a neutral pallet why not introduce some pattern and mix with textures like metallic and leather to create an eclectic look.

Should you wish to continue the theme why not add a quirky occasional chair or an upholstered stool which in a cleverly chosen fabric can also transform the interior.

A little change can be all it takes to make a big difference!!
