Have you got a prize winning tree?

At this time of year your interiors tend to be dominated by Christmas trees, decorations, tinsel and lights; your normal "look and feel" is set aside for a short time to celebrate the festive season.  We've even seen a certain amount of rivalry between neighbours when it comes to "bells & baubles"!

We're not suggesting you try and out do your friends next door but we'd like to know how seriously you (or your kids) take the redecoration of your home for Christmas.

We've also noticed a wide variety styles when it comes to Christmas and, we'd like to see what you have chosen to decorate your home this year.

We're inviting you to share a picture of your Christmas tree (or decorations) on our Facebook Page up until the 6th January (traditionally the day to take them all down again).

We will select a winner form the pictures uploaded before midnight on the 5th January and they will win one of the ornaments shown here.  So, get snapping and share your pictures with us - it's a bit of fun for our followers over the festive season.

Good luck.

It's not all about furniture...

Although we like to think that we know all about furniture, we do know that it's not all about furniture!

At John Dick & Son we have an extensive range of soft furnishing, ornaments, artwork, mirrors, clocks and lamps. These "accent" pieces are the things that finish a room off; the things that change the look and feel of your room as demonstrated by Sally Dick in her last video.

Moreover, they make great gifts; if you've got a house party to attend over the festive season or, maybe a Christmas wedding, you will find a massive selection of suitable gifts at John Dick & Son. Or, if you want to club together and buy something more substantial you can purchase one of our gift vouchers or, John Dick & Son can manage a Gift List for you.

In this short video Managing Director, Bruce Dick talks about "accent" pieces and how the team at John Dick & Son can assist you to choose the right thing, whether for yourself or, as a gift.

How to change the look and feel of your room...

We're delighted to announce the latest of our interior design video tips with Sally Dick.  In this video Sally demonstrates exactly what can be done to change the look and feel of a room just by changing soft furnishings such as cushions, tie-backs, lamps and ottomans.

The interesting thing about this video is just how much you can change the overall look using the same suite in each set.  Sally takes us through what she has done in three different sets which all use the same wall coverings and suite but, they all look and feel entirely different.  So, you could adopt some of these tips to make seasonal changes or to freshen up an otherwise "tired" room without incurring too much expense.

Downton Abbey meets Braveheart...

We are blown away by this new fabric collection. Made in Scotland by Zoffany, it epitomises British style. Woven in Lanarkshire near Tinto, these designs give an innovative twist to traditional plaids, damasks and knitted patterns; they look and feel fabulous.

The mix of natural marled wool yarns in subtle glowing colours and natural linen yarns give contrast and texture to the designs. It looks fantastic on sofas and chairs and can bring a room to life when used on cushions and throws and, if you like the "Shabby Chic" look, you'll be pleased to see that it is well and truly back.

There are many ways we could describe the fabrics but we think these amazing images say it all and give you a real feel for the warmth that can be created by using the right colour combinations.  We have samples of the Tinto Range in the John Dick & Son showroom; it really are worth coming in to take a look. If you would like one of our interior designers to take you through the range please call 0141 644 1115 or, you can just drop in and take a look for yourself.

Something very special - the Kittoch Chair

We are delighted to announce the launch of a new web site specifically created to highlight one of the true design classics - the Kittoch Chair. We have been selling the Kittoch Chair for over 50 years and it is as popular today as it has ever been, so popular that we have not only created a web site, we have also created its very own Facebook Page.

There are many reasons why the Kittoch Chair has stood the test of time, people have different reasons for loving this iconic piece of furniture, here are some of the more popular ones:

It's the most comfortable
Customers often tell us that the Kittoch Chair is always the first one to be taken in the room regardless of the other furniture. Everyone wants to sit in the Kittoch Chair - could it be it's Regal appearance that attracts people to it?

It's the most versatile
Somehow tartan fits in any environment and with any other colour, it looks great in a contemporary or traditional room. It's a funny thing, but we've never really come across a room where a Kittoch Chair didn't add to the overall design. It doesn't seem to matter what tartan; bright and bold or subtle and dark, the Kittoch Chair just seems to work - what other piece of furniture can make such a claim?

It's the most durable
Kittoch Chairs are made in the UK by craftsmen using the finest materials - they last for a very long time. Some of our original customers still have (and love) their Kittoch Chairs. And, because they fit in any interior, they tend not to be discarded when a room is redesigned or when customers moves to a different style of house. In most cases the Kittoch Chair becomes a family heirloom passed lovingly to younger generations.

It's the most personal
What other piece of furniture offers the opportunity to display your own family tartan? With literally hundreds of tartans to choose from, you can select your ancestral tartan or a favourite tartan. Better still, why not have two - one from each side of the family?

Whatever the reason, there is little doubt that the Kittoch Chair represents excellent value for money and will become a real talking point in any home. We are delighted to announce the launch of the web site where you can find out all about the Kittoch Chair and select your tartan from the enormous range available.

BUY THE KITTOCH CHAIR ONLINE
You can choose your tartan and buy the Kittoch Chair on the web site. When you've made your selection and completed the purchase we will send you a sample of the tartan you have chosen so that you can approve it prior to manufacture.

Please take a moment to visit the site and the Facebook page, we're sure you'll find it interesting.  The Kittoch Chair Site is at:

Fabulous fabrics make our job fun...

We're enjoying using the exciting new ranges we have in from Harlequin. The wonderful Delphine & Floris collections are giving us great inspiration and at prices that surprised us!!

Delphine captures the heady essence of seasonal days and the frosty beauty of autumn mornings, providing a tranquil elegance and encompassing the allure of an English country garden. The collection is strong in design and highly usable with an eclectic mix of prints with damasks and crewelwork-inspired embroideries.

The non-woven wallpapers in the collection encompass both bold statement papers and smaller designs which can be used on all four walls, thus making a return to smaller scaled motifs, which can be used more extensively without being overpowering.

Interesting schemes can be created by using the prints & embroideries along with the tactile wools in Delphine Wools & Textures. The stylish range of check wool plaids and stripes in unusual but exciting colour combinations could bring warmth & texture into any room.

Floris Embroideries is composed of two designs: Allium, featuring flamboyant, embroidered allium heads and Flora, which depicts delicate flowers with finely detailed petals and stamen. The fine stitchery enhances both designs and gives them a timeless appeal. The collection conjures up the spirit of quintessentially beautiful country gardens and our love for all things horticultural!

We would love to share this beautiful range with you so why not come into the showroom or if you have a room in mind, make an appointment with on of our designers to have a chat about the possibilities!!

It was our pleasure Mrs Lawson...

I have just spoken to Mrs Lawson who called to thank John Dick & Son following the delivery of her new sofas, bedroom furniture, paintings and wall coverings for her new home. When I asked her what in particular impressed her about John Dick & Son she immediately replied, "everything".  She then enthused about the helpfulness of the staff in the showroom and the fact that nothing was too much bother for the delivery men.

Mrs Lawson is moving to a new home and she has purchased several major items from us; when I asked her if she had considered buying furniture on-line she said, "No, it is important to feel and touch furniture to check the quality".  This is something we hear lots of people talk about and, the scale of the furniture is often something that people seem to get caught out with.  Mrs Lawson also added that she prefers to deal with people face to face, especially with major purchases, so that any potential problems can be identified and resolved in person.

During our conversation Mrs Lawson also praised the fact that the delivery drivers turned up at the appointed time (something else you don't get from on-line stores) but, her real praise was reserved for the attitude of the delivery men and their willingness to make sure everything was to her liking before they left - taking all of the packaging materials with them.

Whilst Mrs Lawson didn't use our full interior design service, she did take advice on matching wall coverings to fabrics; a service with which she also expressed her delight.  All in all, Mrs Lawson summed it up by saying, "It was just lovely, a really nice experience and pleasure to find a company that genuinely cares."

Mrs Lawson, the pleasure was all ours and speaking to you earlier today was a "really nice experience", thank you.

The photographs in this blog post are stock images and are representative of the furniture purchased by Mrs Lawson.
